Finally on July 14th Trump backs Kyiv in war with Russia through weapons and threats to Moscow by having NATO supply arms now from their stockpiles, then the US will sell replacements we provide NATO. Trump stated that 100% tariffs may be imposed if Russia does not reach an agreement soon, while the Senate sanctions bill is currently delayed.
Trump will doubtless be crowing about saving the US money and keeping our defence plants active, but at least we are not abandoning European NATO allies and the Ukrainians!!

Germany will send patriot air defence batteries to Ukraine as it purchases replacements from the United States, a senior white house official says – WaPo
Norway will also send a battery. https://t.co/lJX51kmrn9

Isn’t it important that Trump’s long friendship with Putin has finally come to an end, as Trump finds it is no longer politically feasible. Of course, and Trump got effusive thanks from the European head of NATO as well as from Ukrainian President Zelinsky! Ego stropping thank yous are always mandatory with Trump!
That Putin made a dangerous miscalculation about Trump never acting is noted here:
From the Washington Post “Opinions | Putin took Trump for granted. He’s going to pay for his mistake.
After the president’s startling, welcome shift on Ukraine, there’s more to do.

As Trump’s great big, beautiful bill proceeded for approval on July 3rd in time to reach the President‘s desk for his signature on the date he had demanded of July 4 against possible dissenting votes from some Republicans, but more visible criticism from Elon Musk, it becomes evident that it will have passed in the Senate despite hostility in the US House.
Here’s the story of GBBB’s insanity as the Washington Post told us:
“How Trump’s big bill will affect you, from Medicaid cuts to tax credits. The legislation has big implications for seniors, families, Medicaid recipients, immigrants and others.”
Congress has signed off on a $3.4 trillion legislative package, delivering President Trump his “big, beautiful bill,” despite rumblings from fiscal hawks.
The expansive bill will affect nearly every American.
Here’s how it looks: https://t.co/Fk7E0rfcd9

Many of the central promises made by Trump during his election campaign have not been fulfilled. Additionally, some actions, such as Musk’s involvement with DOGE chainsaw, have impacted on the effectiveness of several departments for an extended period.
But Musk calls the new law an abomination and is so angry his pet provisions didn’t get passed he is now forming a new political party!
Read the Washington Post story here.
Elon Musk’s threat to start a third major political party has been met with widespread skepticism, as critics pointed to numerous failed bids over decades to disrupt America’s two-party system. https://t.co/ttnloKXerV

One of Trump’s earliest crimes was his destruction of USAID where we discovered now in Sudan, withdraw of its support has caused much death.
In assessing these first days of his second term, we are repelled, horrified, and discouraged.
In my previous June 30 op ed piece, I reported on the action plan proposed by Michigan, Senator Elissa Slotkin, which would provide Democrats a solid list of issues to bring to the midterms.
“New Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin Offers Both Parties Urgently Needed Fresh Ideas To Save Our Democracy.”
Read that piece again here.

Slotkin could be on the list of Democratic Presidential hopefuls, but I am suggesting strongly that Democrats immediately begin to identify attractive candidates and empower them with a chance to discuss these issues so that the entire attack plan will not involve criticizing the criminal behavior of Donald Trump.
Yes, impeachment of Trump will not occur now or probably not later but certainly his dominant use of the GOP will very likely make the GOP weaker, even though it is controlled by the billionaires who thanks to Citizens United and subsequent GOP led actions have allowed our democracy to be controlled by the billionaires.
There is not much time left for Democrats, independents and thoughtful Republicans to stand up against this ferocious onslaught, but all of a sudden it’s going to occur to many of Trump’s faithful MAGA supporters that they have been handsomely snookered as the GOP law makers as they continue to claim the GBBB took no benefits away, and that all those mandatory services that have been so needed are going to suffer, substantial reductions!
BREAKING: The Rules Committee just voted 7-5 to BLOCK Rep. Ro Khanna’s amendment that would have forced a House vote demanding AG Pam Bondi to release the Epstein files.
All 7 NO votes were Republicans.
The 5 YES votes? 4 Democrats and 1 Republican.
What are Republicans so… pic.twitter.com/nKYBjb0yKU

Undermining the legitimacy of government really began with Reagan, commenting “ I’m from the government and I’m here to help” which, of course, was true as the majority of those working in our federal system and around the country, we’re not there to grab power or to get wealthy, but to actually follow their hearts and providing services that they could observe themselves were so desperately needed.
Newt Gingrich brought a new level of hate to the debate, but Clinton certainly did not derail the right-wing train moving against Americans, even though at the close of his presidency, the national that was $5.7 trillion.
Of course, 911, GW Bush’s Great Recession and Covid and the willingness of both parties to suspend freely augmented the national debt so that by the end of the Obama administration, the national debt was $20 trillion!
Now with the passage of GBBB, we are assured that the national debt will reach $40 trillion in 10 years, at this point we can only wonder if our famous dollar will still be the world’s currency.
Certainly, the disrespect for America abroad, which has grown exponentially since Trump has taken office will not be easily recovered. We know that the illumination of US AID will cause millions of unnecessary deaths while the cost of continuing that vital service is minuscule compared to the interest we’re paying on the national debt, the defense department and virtually every other majors expenditure of our government. For too long Trump slowed down providing necessary munitions to Ukraine.
His Department of Justice continues to attack our universities which with substantial US Government funding are primary engines of the innovations which make us the envy of the world.
ICE continues to make arrests and deportations which deny individuals the due process of law. A July memo from the agency’s acting director instructs officers to hold immigrants who entered the country illegally “for the duration of their removal proceedings,” which can take months or years.
Read here the Post story.

If you are frightened, discouraged, and completely disgusted with the weak spines of the GOP in both houses you are far from alone since all immediate reports that the popularity of the bill just passed was despise by two Americans versus one that believed in the new GBBB law.
Sadly, a Democratic victory in the midterms, which is by no means assured will be unable to fix what has been wrought by Trump and his villains.
After his January 6, 2021, coup attempt Trump should have been a convicted felon but now we can only hope our political process can work well enough to survive as a democracy until 2028!
Fresh ideas, courage, and bipartisan cooperation are lost. Can Harvard recover from Trump’s attacks? Will our NATO allies ever again wish to trust America for support? Will the Gaza war and the Ukrainian war go worse ways with the absence of sensible leadership? Will Iranians continue to seek a nuclear bomb?
The uncertainty of world peace and stability is now so completely uncertain thanks to what the Trump administration has perpetrated that what was an increasingly uncertain future now is much more troubling. As Bob Dylan has sung “the answer is blowing in the wind”.
