First let’s define the word pestilence. As Wikipedia tells us:

Are you confused about the difference between pest and pestilence? You’re not alone. These two words are often used interchangeably, but they actually have distinct meanings. In this article, we’ll explore the differences between the two and help you understand which one to use in different contexts.

Let’s define our terms. A pest is an organism that is considered harmful or destructive to humans, animals, or crops. This can include insects like ants or termites, rodents like mice or rats, and even weeds that compete with crops for resources. Pestilence, on the other hand, refers to a contagious and often fatal epidemic disease, especially bubonic plague.

Syria, Gaza, Ukraine and other places crumble which can only mean more immigrants coming to the USA.

What’s the best way to react?

Trump calling the environmental crisis a hoax reminds me of the famous Edgar Allen Poe story “The Masque of the Red Death” which offers powerful symbolism for our world today.

Poe’s 1842 short story tells of one dominant leader Prince Prospero attempts during the 14th Century Black Plague–as Wikipedia tells us “to avoid a dangerous plague known as the Red Death by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other wealthy nobles, has a masquerade ball within seven rooms of his abbey, each decorated with a different color. In the midst of their revelry, a mysterious figure enters and makes his way through each of the rooms. When Prospero confronts this stranger, he falls dead.”

Now substitute the plague for excess human numbers trying to survive on a planet with limited resources and you arrive at the obvious conclusion that you can’t cordon yourself of from the totally interconnected world where we all need to work out a new UN spirit to survive.

If Trump and his isolationist billionaires think they can erect border walls or tariff others into submission the USA will suddenly generate a form of economic Red Death!

The backbone of peaceful trade and the now greatly reduced birth rates as women’s equality rises could allow the world to chart a gentle path to AI’s automation which will require so many fewer people.

Can we now look at the world as George Marshall did to Europe after WWII?

This recent posting tells the story more gently than I have but adds data which underline the obvious truth of what is happening.

Its title: We are not running out of people. We are running out of planet!

You can read this comprehensive proof here.

The world is running out of time to wake up to the fact that growth of invasive power has led us to the brink of disaster which fostered mindsets which world leaders now ignore just when peaceful solutions are possible.
