While claiming he would swiftly bring the war in Ukraine to an end, Trump has yet to fulfill that promise and an end is not in sight!
It is also clear that Putin’s continuing unwillingness to stop attacking Ukraine is based on his belief that if he continues the United States will lose its willingness to continue support.
This possibility has been strongly suggested by the nature of the so-called negotiations, and it is becoming more and more obvious that Trump’s longtime affection for Putin and his desire to have a Russian trading deal from which he and his family could personally profit has made these ongoing negotiations difficult.
NATO, explained: Why the alliance was formed — and what it's doing for Ukraine: Russia's attack on Ukraine has put a focus on the North Atlantic alliance. Here's what you need to know about NATO. https://t.co/5AS9oEIYar pic.twitter.com/hE0z4gXn1e

You may recall my April 25th article entitled “Trump: A Soviet Asset? More And More Plausible!”
I wrote,
Now that negotiations with the combatants in Ukraine parties for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia seem deadlocked, one is more and more convinced that Vladimir Putin wants the war to go on because he sees no reason that he will lose with apparently such warm regards from Donald Trump, and the total imbalance of offers made to Volodymyr Zelenskyy by the Trump administration.
Clearly, Trump implied that if Zelenskyy did not quickly come to embrace these unbalanced off offers for settlement that the United States might very well walk away from further support.
This of course, reminds us of the long history of Trump ‘s affection for the Soviets, which has been covered in a number of news articles for some years.
Here from the Guardian ‘The perfect target’: Russia cultivated Trump as asset for 40 years – ex-KGB spy”. “The KGB ‘played the game as if they were immensely impressed by his personality’, Yuri Shvets, a key source for a new book, tells the Guardian”.

Now more and more Trump’s conflicts of interest are obvious. Putin’s main anxiety over the obvious solution to this conflict is to immediately make Ukraine a member of NATO. Naturally Trump is opposed but so are many of our NATO allies!
The complexities of this situation are well written in a New York Times May 14th article entitled “Why Isn’t Ukraine in NATO?” which begins
It has been evident for some time that the main burden for stability against Putin in Europe has been to keep Ukraine, independent and serving as a wall against further aggression by Putin.
President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has not ruled out a U.S. and Ukrainian proposal for a monthlong cease-fire, but he has laid out numerous conditions that would most likely delay any truce — or could make one impossible to achieve.
Mr. Putin has long signaled that he will not stop fighting until he extracts major concessions from the West and from Kyiv, including a pledge that Ukraine will not join NATO. But he also appears eager to keep engaging with President Trump, and he has left open the possibility of a cease-fire before a broader deal is reached.
The Trump administration has also said that it does not support NATO membership for Ukraine — a significant blow to Kyiv’s hopes of eventually joining the mutual-defense alliance. Ukraine has made membership in NATO a key strategic aim, based on the idea that the organization’s blanket of protection would guard against future Russian aggression.

While his Ukraine NATO reluctance could be augmented by his wish for more personal money making with Russian real estate projects, more might be his concern about the real possibility of heightened scrutiny of his Russian asset speculation!
The Times is not alone in its wondering about the future of Russian Ukrainian negotiations as the Washington Post 5/20 article “Trump backs off ceasefire after call with Putin, letting fighting rage on” begins by saying “After Trump’s third phone call with Putin since his inauguration, it appears there will be no letup in fighting and less U.S. pressure on Moscow.”

As noted above, we know Trump’s failure in so many other areas of governance, including the growing tariff disaster, but this apparent conflict of interest with his long time affiliation with Putin, seems to completely inhibit his inability to bring this war to an end.
The NATO allies know that US support to Ukraine must continue but fear Trump may walk away unless Ukrainian President Zelensky gives Trump and Putin war ending conditions Ukraine shouldn’t accept.
What a dilemma that can only be achieved if Ukraine is a NATO member but are unwilling to confront Trump’s anti Ukraine NATO membership.

That this war continues in favor of Putin and obscuring Trump’s motivations should further demonstrate to all Americans how profoundly unsupportable is Trump’s continuance as President!!!
Now the time has come to take Ukraine into NATO and to set a border that if Putin decides to cross, it will incur a reaction he would not like to see.
Are any mass media players willing to tell the public my above take is highly plausible?
