Hobson’s choice for humanity is increasingly, arrogantly ignored!

The priorities or actions to fix problems and improve conditions for humanity around the world are increasingly undone.

For example, on July 3, the US House of Representatives voted to pass Trump’s big, beautiful bill in time to have it on his desk for signature on July 4, something he had instructed them to do.

Trump’s July 4 victory ignores myriad more serious crises pending for the entire world!

Through budget cuts and layoffs, the administration has begun to cripple the government’s ability to research global warming.”

Trump sees no problems with our environment, so massive examples of nature’s rebellion have just instigated further cuts!

Church and State has consistently published eloquent articles proving the major underlying issue threatening human survival is overpopulation, but few people especially leaders such as Trump believe that fact and disastrous results are rapidly burgeoning.

Here is a recent example of a Church and State overpopulation article:

Human survival is rapidly becoming a Hobson’s choice.

Wikipedia tells us:

A Hobson’s choice is a free choice in which only one thing is actually offered. The term is often used to describe an illusion that choices are available. The best-known example is “I’ll give you a choice: Take it or leave it”, wherein “leaving it” is strongly undesirable.

The phrase is said to have originated with Thomas Hobson (1544-1631), a livery stable owner in Cambridge, England, who offered customers the choice of either taking the horse in the stall nearest to the door or taking none at all.”

Not to be confused with Hobbesian trap.

1886 cover of Puck titled “Hobson’s choice”, by James Albert Wales, showing a gun-wielding personification of Oregon telling Chinese immigrants in the United States: “You can go, or stay.”

As we watched the jubilant behavior of the US House of Representatives clapping madly after winning the vote on Trump‘s great big beautiful bill (GBBB), will enough of us feel highly apprehensive regardless of your position on the merits or demerits of this uniquely sized legislation TO JOIN A MAJORITY OF US IN TAKING ACTION to bring about solutions to the multiple serious planetary crises looming ever closer to bringing disastrous occurrences?

In wringing their hands about the new legislation, I did not hear many Democrats voicing worry that the vast government sums going to various projects wanted by each party did not include any or adequate money to address planetary crises which have been clearly worsening for decades.

Regardless, this new legislation with many disputed spending priorities will cost a lot but will have a propound effect on US politics in the near and long term.

Both Trump’s terms as resident prove his total failure to recognize the environmental implications to global warming, raging fires, water shortages, hurricanes and deciding to reduce funding for FEMA just as the latter mentioned season is upon us. Of course, the impact on our more affluent citizens has been a downturn in assistance for poor members of our society and has translated into a far worse scenario.

Human pollution with our daily junk dumps into our environment has initiated health concerns yet not fully understood.

These continuing unsolved wars incur unaddressed effects on the environment now. Then of course the ultimate nuclear disaster. There are now 12000 loaded missiles.

We have long arrived at unsustainable population levels. All methods of family planning must be available free to anyone who needs them.

In my 94-year lifetime human numbers have increased from 2 billion to over 8 billion and experts are predicting another billion or two before the end of the century.

In short, the more rapid advance of the sixth extension so admirably laid out in Elizabeth Kolbert’s 2014 Nobel Prize winning book The Sixth Extension gets nearer daily.

Too many of us ignore key issues needing fixed. As we know our world suffers contentious division between more people based on race, religion, economic condition, and fear.

Now we face the most explosive potential for widespread disasters in human history.

Atop this fearsome mix stand our billionaire oligarchs, who now control our democracy. Many of them seem willing to buy anything that will maintain their status, including buying legislators who will enable legislation such as the GBBB passed yesterday.

The labeling of people as too woke or communist or lefties is so easy and does not help address any of the above, except to make solutions even more difficult.

Trump daily name calling does not enable these ignored solutions that could ease the pain of overpopulation, and the other maladies expressed above.

Such a tragedy as we look around at the beautiful world in which we live and the accomplishments which have enabled us to provide stable fulfilling lives compared to earlier generations. Now we were on the verge of losing it all, despite these enormous accomplishments!

When technology such as Al allows vast numbers of us to do tasks that will be done by robots, will it allow humans to comprehend the luxury so many of us have enjoyed?? I am hopeful, but not optimistic!
