If you’re a woman you’re going to want to deck this guy for what he just said.

During an interview with the Christian Post this week, evangelist Kirk Cameron said that no matter how wives are treated by their husbands they should be submissive and stay in the marriage because God commands it.

“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” Cameron said before claiming that women should know their role so that the marriage can succeed. “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.”

In other words, even if she is being beaten daily by her husband and treated like a slave, a wife should always remain submissive and basically let her husband do whatever they want without consequence. And it’s all because the Bible says so according to Cameron.

“A lot of people don’t know that marriage comes with instructions,” he said. “And, we find them right there in God’s word.”

Seriously. This is the “advice” Cameron has for women.

Someone should call Cameron’s wife and make sure she is okay because the former child actor clearly thinks domestic violence is something wives should just ignore instead of saving themselves and getting out of the marriage.

Cameron is, of course, part of the conservative Christian fundamentalist movement which repeatedly preaches that women are nothing more than common house slaves meant to cook, clean, raise children, and talk only when their husbands give them permission to do so.

Just take pastor Steven Anderson for instance.

In February, Anderson posted a sermon in which he preached that women should be banned from voting, barred from seeking divorce, prevented from entering the workforce, and ought to be confined to the home where they are submissive to their husbands.

“The right to divorce your husband is what they mean. You know what they mean? The right to rebel and disobey your husband, the right to divorce him, the right to go out and get a job and make your own money, the right to tell him what to do, the right to go vote for our leaders as if women should have any say in how our country is run when the Bible says that “I suffer not a woman to teach, not to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.””

Here’s the video via YouTube:

Two years earlier, Anderson demanded that women shut their mouths in church so that the men could teach them. You have to wonder if Cameron believes that, too.

Anderson has also preached that women shouldn’t be allowed to talk, read, or leave the house.

Basically, if conservative Christians like Steven Anderson or Kirk Cameron had their way women would be forbidden to have lives outside of the home and would be under the boot heel of their husbands day in and day out without a say in the matter. And just think, many Republican lawmakers agree with them.

It’s a scary thought that should spur women across the country to use their right to vote to put men like Cameron and Anderson in their place.

  1. Please save us from a religious zealot!!! They are just as bad be they Muslim OR Christian, They all hate women and consider them below men! That is why I left organized religion along time ago! Kirk Cameron is a perfect example of what a hateful, judgemental Christian can be!

    • These guys are terrified of women which is why they are working so hard to keep them opressed. I can't believe these guys have a an audience for their backward thinking, insecure rhetoric.

      • Of ***COURSE*** they do have an audience…it’s the other guys in the church & their MALE children. Why don’t they go collect all the women in this country who are in coma & marry them?? Then they can do what they want, whenever they want, & the poor brain-dead wife will be perfectly obedient, with never a cross word. That seems to be what they want in a wife…someone who lacks a functional BRAIN.

    • They are using the Bible to abuse women! Take away our voices! we should just submit ourselves to violence and beatings, verbal abuse!! I Think Not!!! Kirk Cameron and all the men who Believes it’s ok to treat a women like a dog should be one for a year!! You couldn’t Handle walking in our shoe, let your women treat you as you treat her, see how you like it! Why can’t we have a say, don’t use the Bible figure it out yourself.
“Disrespectful and Disgusting” go sit back and watch a man treat your daughter like a Slave, beat her take away her toughts, if you men can do that, your Mama must be so Proud of YOU!!!

    • Whao, you have such men too in Christianity? I thought such men are only in Hadithic Islam. They’re making up things not in the Qur’an but from the hadith which are merely chinese whispers and they claim its part of Islam. So all men are the same in organized religion!

      • Hi, Fatima, I think there are zealots in all established religions, let it be Islam, Christians (Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, etc) Judaism, even Buddhists may be intolerant such as those in Myanmar, so I believe in spirituality and I would never ever have a relationship with such men, they are devils in disguise

      • Scripture can always be used out out context to oppress or hurt others no matter the religion. It’s the people who do it, not the religion that is to blame.

    • Couldn’t be more wrong. Stuff spewing from a mouth is nothing like bombing, stoning, beheading, hating everyone other than a muslim, killing someone because they were raped and dishonored you. Can’t compare the two. Christian men on the whole do not hate women. Too many good, long, loving marriages. So what if you submit to your husbands wishes? Good husbands submit to their wives wishes, too. It’s give and take. The husband is the leader of the family and his council is to be respected unless he proves unworthy of that. Kirk Cameron is a wonderful man, father and husband, so says his wife. Head of household, leader, provider, protector and loving father and husband. What woman could ask for more. Why demean a man for believing in God and who is willing to follow the principles that insure mutual love and respect between man and woman? It is appalling to hear such demonizing rhetoric about people who are nothing like your characterization.

      • This horrible man states that women are not 'allowed' to leave their husbands if the hubby beats them silly because of a bad day at work. If my husband or boyfriend ever hit me it would assuredly be the last time. And if you would tolerate a beating from your leader i.e. husband, there is something deeply wrong with your religion and your thought processes. An intelligent and strong woman has no responsibility to God or to mankind to be any man's whipping post and/or subordinate. Have you no self-respect at all that you would consider yourself a lesser human being because you were born a female? How sad for you. I sincerely hope that you do not have any daughters. And f you have sons teach then to love and respect their wives intelligence and decision making aptitude.

      • You are the one who is wrong, Jackie. You're buying into the same bs that many around the world believe – the scourge of Islam. It simply is not the case. Read the Bible thoroughly and you'll find the same stories of abuse, rape, incest and violence. You're simply allowing your lack of experience with loving Muslim couples to taint your point of view. Your last sentence speaks hypocritical volumes as you're doing exactly the same thing you claim others are doing to Cameron – demonising an entire religion based on the activities of a tiny percentage. Pot meet kettle.

      • At least the version of Islam nincompoops seem to have contrived who generally lump up other people under broad jaundiced strokes whilst brooking no such stereotyping for their preferred religion. You shame yourself when you come to a public forum armed only with conjecture and talking points from the Christian apologist's handbook.

    • The best way for women to handle misogynist bible thumpers like Cameron & Anderson is to totally ignore them. If you respond to express your outrage & anger, they ignore you & feed off that to target you for reform to accept their beliefs because now they have your internet connection address & know how to contact you. That's how the so called Christian right wing conservatives operate – they play the shame & blame game & work to humiliate women in order to drive them back to the good old days when men ruled the roost. They refuse to accept the 21st century dictate that, hey, men & women are equal in everything & the glass ceiling is broken. They will eventually be left far behind as they die off, broken & defeated for their misogynist evil beliefs. Oh, in case you were wondering, I am a man expressing my views in defense of women worldwide.

    • Are you implying there exists a context in which this position is not infuriating and dangerous in the 2131st century western world? Cameron deserves exactly no more consideration than he’s been given already in this matter.

    • I read the article all the way through. Both Kirk Cameron and Pastor Steve Anderson are the worst kind of entitled white men there is. All you Christians who believe that women don't deserve rights will all die some day. If you go to heaven, your shitty attitudes towards women will get you an ass kicking. If that doesn't happen, you'll get to spend eternity with all the above losers. Either way, you're hooped.

      • You're not "Average", A.V. If these guys (Cameron & his "pastor") are to be viewed as a sample of what's out there man-wise, then that makes you a SUPERIOR man.

    • Yes, I read it. And was STILL completely insulted as a human being. THANK YOU GOD for sending me a MUCH, MUCH better man – one who views me as his EQUAL, cherishes me & shows me kindness & RESPECT. These chauvinistic bullies know NOTHING about respect, nothing at all. But I'm glad I read this piece, as I now have even MORE appreciation for my sweet hubby than I perhaps had before I read it. I knew I was lucky, just didn't realize HOW lucky! Poor, poor Ms. Cameron. I hope she smothers him in his sleep.

      • They sure will be making it dangerous for men, sleeping or awake! Also, what they plan on doing is to force good, respectful husband’s to do evil subjection like them. In some countries, they put women in prison for being raped!!! You ever head of anything like that before? If you have, let me know.

    • I read the whole thing and although he talks about the man’s role as “protector” he clearly believes that women are inferior and her role is to put up with a nasty husband because that’s what God wants. I beg to differ!

  2. 'In other words, even if she is being beaten daily by her husband and treated like a slave, a wife should always remain submissive and basically let her husband do whatever they want without consequence. And it’s all because the Bible says so according to Cameron.'

No Christians say this- you're putting words in Cameron's mouth. Abuse and adultery are biblical grounds for divorce

    • Wrong. Christians of this extreme faith DO say this. My friend attended a church with similar beliefs and when her husband began hitting her, she went to the pastor. The pastor told her that her job as a wife is to “honor” her husband. Are you kidding me?!

    • No Kay, they do actually say this kind of stuff. They have taken the Bible and twisted it and bastardized it to fit how they want their world to be. Doesn't matter that the Bible is actually against this and you won't convince them otherwise. He's in the same mind set of the Duggars and Mike Pence, and that one lady who went to jail for refusing to issue same sex marriage licenses. They ALL believe this. They are Dominionists. I've been confronted by men like this, they truly believe men are superior to women and will do whatever it takes to subjugate them.

    • I dont know where in the bible it says abuse is a reason for divorce? I was a christian and stayed in an abusive marriage as i thought it was gods will. I suffered years of mental harm and my young children were exposed to toxic behaviour. All for faith and belief. I could not understand why a "loving' god would allow and command this. I eventually left and have never looked back or been happier. I left behind any idea of god also

      • That has nothing to do with God or religion. It has to do with an excuse for a man who has issues of self worth. Like any bully they think if they can throw their weight around and subjugate others they are more manly. They cherry pick Bible passage, usually from the old t estimate to support their twisted ideas. In the early church women were a major part and participated in services.

    • No REAL Christians say these, however these folks are NOT real Christian folks, they twist the Bible, and don't follow the true teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught women and listened to them. These folks are going Old Testament and then twisting it.

    • Where in the Bible does it say abuse is grounds for divorce?

And where in the Bible does it give women the right to divorce their husband?

Jesus says that the only reason a man can divorce his wife is unchastity, in Matthew 19:9, but prior (Mat 19:6-8) said divorce is adultery. Then in Mark 10:2-12 and Luke 16:18, he seems to be saying there is never a good reason to divorce.

1Corintians 7:39, Romans 7:2-3 say a woman must be with her husband as long as he is alive, but can marry after he dies.

The Old Testament has rules that state she must marry her husband's brother.

Deu22:19 states that a woman must marry her rapist, if she is a virgin who is unmarried and they can never divorce.

The ancient world was not a place were women were considered equal. They were treated like property, and the books dating from these times, including the Bible, reflect this.

      • And that is why the bible is just a fairy tale written by men trying to control others. It's all nonsense. Time to wake up! The wars, killings, rapes, tortures, stemming from the bible's teachings being misinterpreted are proof it's not possible to know what the original writers meant – and how it was interpreted in that time period. We don't keep text books because they are out of date… time to put the bible in the history section and stop seeing it as real or factual. IT's not.
