The present willingness of the Republican Party to embrace lies as truth risks the destruction of our democracy.

Reading the December 2020 issue of The Spectator I was treated to Richard Dawkins’ short essay “Science: The Gold Standard of Truth” in which he notes “what is profoundly troubling is any wanton attack on truth itself: the value of truth, the very existence of truth.”

In the sustained use of a blatant lie such as now ex-President Trump has done in his big lie about not losing reelection on November 3rd we find he found the Achilles Heel of our democracy.

Then in fostering the violent intervention of our cherished US Capital on January 6th and getting away with treason, we citizens face the most unique risk in our long democratic history!

His lies could very well bring down our democracy and a significant number of elected Republican law makers are ceding him control of that benighted and disgraced party.

He continued his lying at CPAC on February 28th, which you can read about here.

Where we go from here is uncertain as we have never faced such a divisive enigma since the Civil War.

Such lack of moral character in our highest office has never surfaced to this extent and worse its perpetrator has been embraced and empowered.

And now his right-wing Republican rabble seek to steal minority voting rights around the USA.

You can read about this Republican voter suppression tactic here.

How long will this abomination be continued?

And now the upcoming far right new members care being lionized. Read about Madison Cawthorn here.

As Biden steers a moderate middle course, perhaps the extremism of the Florida CPAer Republicans will be seen as a non-winning strategy?
