A Time for Truth And True Heroes? Do We Want A Real Democracy Anymore?

The utter asininity of behavior by the non-governing GOP was in part brought on over many years by both parties failing to hear the deep anguish of too many poor and racially ignored Americans.

As our republic totters, it is a time for heroes. The wealth gap and the fury so well described by Evan Osnos’ book, “Wildland: The Making of America’s Fury” about its basis for fury among a growing number of our citizens has raised the urgency of stopping another insurgency. Ironically in living the fate Osnos describes, these furious Trumpers don’t fully understand the authoritarian future he offers, but they were and are readily still manipulated so far by his and others’ dishonest rhetoric.

Those Trump sycophants in Congress who apparently will do anything to win control of Congress in the midterms must be curbed.

Notice that most of them didn’t show for Biden’s signing on November 15th of the bipartisan passed infrastructure law. Read here, first the WSJ story, then the Washington Post version.

Yes, those signing ceremony absentees must be stopped because their immorality could set the stage for Trump or a clone to try another coup. Sadly too many Democrats are resigning rather than face Trump doxies in primaries.

Meantime will the last coup attempt by Trump be unearthed in time with sufficient power to penetrate, illuminate and activate enough voters of both parties to keep that dismal scenario from happening? Book after credible book keeps coming out with truth after disturbing truth about Trump’s attempted coup, but with for the moment seemingly little success at pining the blame on the ultimate felon and thus crashing his political future even if he does not serve a day in jail as he should.

I have previously listed in my Op Eds most of these books. Two I found particularly compelling were “I Alone Can Fix It” and “Peril” but more books will be coming, especially as the insider documents are obtained by the House Commission on the Insurrection. Its report will likely precede the 2022 midterm elections. Who among those insiders will decide telling the truth is better than going to jail?

Bottom line on the republic issue: Again, the emergence of heroes, most of them should be Republicans who will not hesitate to finger people such as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for abetting the felonious attempt by Trump to change the 2020 election results.

The jury of public opinion is still deliberating, but the clock is clearly ticking not only on the fate of our republic, but with the climate crisis soon even more dangerously affecting the habitability of the world. Real heroes have already arisen on that issue but will they be heard in time! I am not an optimist.
