Trump’s and Musk’s Definition of Fat and Waste Is Absurd and Undocumented!

Those of us watching the February 11 performance of Elon Musk, his son and President Trump behind his Resolute desk were supposed to inform, but actually just symbolized the utter falsity of what has been so far uncovered in terms of fat in the federal government.

As Elon tells us about all this terrible criminality and corruption, we have yet to see any concrete evidence presented to verify his claims.

This in no way is meant to conclude that there isn’t any waste as there might be in any government the size of ours with the complexity that has made us the greatest country in the world.

For example our huge defense expenditures! You should have started there, Mr. Musk.

However, as we can plainly see the cuts that were and will likely be suggested were not cuts, but demolitions which were undertaken before an evaluation could occur that would definitely determine the effectiveness and the importance of having these departments continue.

The initial attack on USAID was a reflection of Musk’s purposeful misunderstanding put forward of what that agency represented in terms of American foreign policy.

Earlier the now Secretary of State Marco Rubio long argued as a Senator that USAID was one of the most important ways that we extended our influence around the globe by providing help to the world‘s very poorest people in the greatest need!

USAID’s continuing absence would provide an opening for both a giant China and Russia and key parts of the world where we had hoped to maintain our influence.

Having personally observed so many projects that USAID funded over so many years it’s apparent to me how effective its work has been.

One of my many colleagues who worked in health and development areas was a giant in making the process of international help work best. His name was Reimert T. Ravenholt, who I worked with for decades as we organized several agencies funded by USAID and private donors which offered thousands of women safe ways of family planning. At his death at 95 in 2020 his obituary read in part,

Meantime, a Trump has attacked our close allies, such as Canada and Mexico with tariffs!
