Failure of our government to anticipate major needs for new power and for major efforts to save a deteriorating climate by curbing fossil fuels and encouraging other energy fossil sources we have now come to an impasse which continues to get worse thanks to the Trump policies, which include feathering the nest of Elon Musk as we shoot off rockets in an attempt to get farther into outer space while our inner space is deteriorating in many ways!
As we ponder the continued expansion of fossil fuels by the big producers at Trump’s call, a small island called Saint Paul Island in the Bering Sea which illustrates what is happening to our total environment on our road to the 6th Extinction.
From the Post story entitled “Ice all but disappeared from this Alaskan island. It changed everything” it tells us
This tiny island in the middle of the Bering Sea had recently completed its longest winter stretch in recorded history with above-freezing temperatures — 343 consecutive hours, or 14 days — when Aaron Lestenkof drove out to look at Sea Lion Neck.
It was another warm February day. He saw no sea ice; scant snow on the ground.
Lestenkof is one of the sentinels on the island, a small team with the Aleut tribe who monitors changes to the environment across these 43 square miles of windswept hills and tundra. He is also one of 338 residents who still manage to live on St. Paul, something that has become significantly more complicated as the Bering Sea warms around them.
Over the past decade, steadily warming waters have thrown the North Pacific into turmoil, wiping out populations of fish, birds, and crabs, and exposing coastlines to ever more battering from winter storms. The upheaval in the waters has brought so much change to this remote island, where residents still fill their freezers with reindeer and seals, it has forced many to consider how long they can last.
The warm waters killed off about 4 million common murres — the largest die-off of any bird species ever recorded in the modern era — including almost 80 percent of those that nested on St. Paul. They wiped out about 10 billion snow crabs; caused the collapse of the main Alaskan fishery that relied on them; and prompted the closing, three years ago, of St. Paul’s largest source of tax revenue, a Trident Seafoods crab processing plant.
City funds fell by 60 percent. The number of city employees dropped from 43 to 18. The police force disbanded. People moved away. And prices, already high, rose further at the island’s lone grocery store — where eggs were selling for $14.66 a carton.

Crosses stand in memory of two young people who died by suicide on a bluff overlooking the Bering Sea.
The experience of St. Paul shows how changes to the climate, incremental until they become unmistakable, can ripple through the social fabric. Once a bustling winter hub for crab processing, with stately homes built in the 1920s and a historic Russian Orthodox church, St. Paul is quieter now. On many nights in the island’s lone bar, where Lestenkof plays bass on Fridays, they don’t bother to put out the chairs.

In another problem resource area needing urgent attention, we know there is the massive need for new unbuilt not fossil fuel power sources as well. We are years behind in constructing such facilities while at the same time the massive increases in power needs due to AI put enormous pressure on present facilities to meet this demand.
Then there is a matter of meeting the foreign competition for electronic vehicles, which is allowed China to overtake us completely with cheaper, better models, despite the enormous tariffs, which are the main impetus of Trump’s complete disarray.
In short, Trump’s administration is coming tumbling down as deporting immigrants without due process expands to include citizens!
The wakeup call has come too late to foreclose some of the irreparable damage already done as Dan Balz’s 4/27 article entitled “Trump approval sinks as Americans criticize his major policies, poll finds”
It begins
As he nears the end of his first 100 days in office, President Donald Trump is facing growing opposition to his ambitious and controversial agenda, with his approval rating in decline, majority opposition to major initiatives, and perceptions that his administration is seeking to avoid complying with federal court orders, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll.
No president in modern times has moved more swiftly than Trump to remake so many parts of government, as well as some outside institutions. The moves range from shrinking and reshaping the executive branch to upending the global economic order to cracking down on illegal immigration to challenging leading universities.
The initiatives have caused significant disruption to individuals, institutions and financial markets. They have produced a flurry of lawsuits from opponents, which Trump is contesting. There are few bright spots in the survey for the president, and none of his policies tested in the poll enjoy majority support.

There are too many urgent Trump problems to list here; a short summary?
Waiting for lower consumer prices?
Shall the USA Abandon Ukraine?
Can we allow anyone to be deported without due process of law?
Can we fix power shortages?
Must we use more and more fossil fuel?
Will we Abandon environmental safety?
Can our National Debt go higher?
Who added most to that debt?
Can less taxes be paid by billionaires?
Or ultimately the most urgent priority of all, when can we impeach, indict and oust Trump?
Meanwhile, Elon gets full access to our voter-provided resources.
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll shows 35 percent of Americans approve of the way Elon Musk is handling his job in the Trump administration, while 57 percent disapprove. https://t.co/mQ327mOCIC
