We got breaking news on October 8th that the Gaza war was over except for a few details that had not yet been concluded. Most of the claims came from Trump although Netanyahu did chime in to say that he had agreed to a deal, but the fighting has apparently not stopped completely.
Prior to this Gaza deal announcement Thomas Friedman had written a brilliant article on the numerous details of achieving peace in the New York Times on October 8th which you can read here.

Also on October 8th on Netflix there was a broadcast of the final interview given by Jane Goodall, the person who taught us a great deal about ourselves through her study of chimpanzees with whom we humans share 98% of the genes we have. She proved chimps have patterns of behavior completely analogous to our own.
She had taped this interview recently with instructions that it not be broadcast until she died.
The negative human qualities she also had documented in chimps of aggression, include the kind of behavior currently exhibited by and Donald Trump Elon Musk and others. This prompted Goodall with a mischievous twinkle in her eye to suggest that we would be better off to send them all up in a rocket ship from Planet Earth.

She also pointed out that her natural world is under the greatest stress in human history and that we are already well into the infamous Sixth Extinction so beautifully and authoritatively articulated by Elizabeth Kolbert n her 2014 Pulitzer Prize book of the same name.
It has become more and more obvious that unless we can solve the problems of our tiny earth on an urgent basis the likelihood that the 6th extinction will kill a substantial number of humans (if not all) in the not-too-distant future!!
The billionaire CEO of United Way had these comments.
The world lost more than an extraordinary scientist in Dr. Jane Goodall. We lost one of humanity’s clearest voices — a voice that reminded us that hope is not naïve optimism, but a call to action.
Jane Goodall taught us that change begins in the smallest places and grows from the most unexpected corners of our lives. She proved that much can be accomplished when you start with observation and deep listening and that compassion is not only a sentiment but, more importantly, also a practice — one that requires persistence, humility, and faith in the goodness of others.
These are lessons that leaders should take to heart and employ much more today. As I reflect on Jane’s legacy, I see lessons that speak directly to the mission of the organization I lead, United Way Worldwide.

Rest in peace, Jane Goodall.
You taught us that kindness is a form of strength and that respect for life in all its forms is the truest measure of humanity. You will be dearly missed. pic.twitter.com/94YV7ksMqp— Jo (@JoJoFromJerz) October 1, 2025
Meanwhile Trump told the UN in a rambling speech in September “called climate change a ‘con job”.
Here are the facts and context from Politics on Sep 25, 2025.
Some countries’ leaders are watching rising seas threaten to swallow their homes. Others are watching their citizens die in floods, hurricanes and heat waves, all exacerbated by climate change.
But the world U.S. President Donald Trump described in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday didn’t match the one many world leaders in the audience are contending with. Nor did it align with what scientists have long been observing.
“This ‘climate change,’ it’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion,” Trump said. “All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that have cost their countries fortunes and given those same countries no chance for success. If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.

“Millions of people around the world can already testify to the devastation that climate change has brought to their lives,” Adelle Thomas, a climate scientist and vice chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said. https://t.co/OmuduN8TR6

There are so many credible experts who have been predicting the 6th extinction story for so long that apparently, leadership around the world, including Trump, have decided that the science of what experts are saying is simply not true.

Unfortunately, it is profoundly true and can only lead to massive destruction likely to occur in the present century as the population of the world is likely to hit an unsustainable 12 billion people after growing from 2 billion at my birth in 1931.
