Church and State

Let’s begin by making a point made many times before, but as we get so close to the most dangerous time in human history, it is worth making again.
Think about where earth is headed under its overwhelming male dominance.
Who caused the world’s World Wars?
Who invaded Ukraine?
Who does the terrorism?
Who shoots people in the US?
Who does the rapes?
Who uses religions for power?
Who are egotistical braggarts?
Who doesn’t understand menopause?
As we head for the 6th Extinction, the world needs to shift gears and listen hard to the Greta Thunbergs!
As I acknowledge with pride the heritage established by Jefferson, Adams, Madison Monroe, Franklin, Hamilton and others who were simply part of the long history of male dominance who were mostly deists and slave owners, the vital roles of women then were symbolized by Abigale Adams who advised John to “remember the ladies” and Dolly Madison who hosted so many White House events and took that famous picture of George Washington from the White House in 1812 as the British closed for its capture!
The 2/4/23 Wall Street Journal’s editorial opinion by Peggy Noonan attacks Democrats for espousing the free right for women to control their bodies. Never does she acknowledge staying aligned with the views of the ring wing Roman Catholic Supreme Court justices.
She calls the GOP incoherent but flounders along on choice, not understanding it is a precious secular right not to be marred by ideological religious bias.

These deniers, aided by dark money zealots like Lenard Leo who will join them and be further complicit in trying to keep women from getting equality and power in their GOP dysfunctional male dominated world.
When we see these macho men demanding their right to bear arms, their right to head all important institutions either public or private, profit or nonprofit, religious, or secular, we see how GOP egotistical behavior governs that sex!
So, what you say that’s the way it is. Well not in the world’s beehives and other places in the animal kingdom.
Ideas from women on how to change the male dominance scene are voluminous.
Having met with Gloria Steinem on several occasions, I regard her voice as one which sets the highest standard for female advances.
Read her distinguished history here.

Yes there are some males who get it like the late Minnesota Senator Durenberger, who just died as have most Republicans who I could in the past vote with on issues of moderation and common sense.
Many Democrats may not have wanted to vote for Senator Barry Goldwater, known as Mr. Conservative, who was the one who made Nixon resign after Watergate, but you never doubted his integrity! And by the way he and his wife Peggy were both prochoice on abortion.
It is useful to recall the career of Justice Harry Blackmun, whose famous Roe decision stood for almost 50 years. Appointed by President Nixon, Blackmun was a supposed conservative, close associate of late Chief Justice Burger, but his decisions were based on his respect for humanity and justice as well as the Constitution and the law.
Reading his remarkable career here reminds us of the importance of having persons of his caliber in public life.
Here are key highlights from this article:
“Harry Andrew Blackmun (1908–1997) served as an associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1970 to 1994. He is best known for writing the majority opinion in Roe v. Wade (1973) that overturned most state abortion laws. That decision was built on Griswold v. Connecticut (1965), which formulated a right of privacy based in part on emanations from the First Amendment.
Blackmun was an architect of the Court’s commercial speech doctrine
Appointed by President Richard Nixon with the strong approval of his former childhood friend Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, Blackmun was expected to be a thoroughly conservative justice. In fact, early in Blackmun’s tenure on the Court he and Burger were dubbed the “Minnesota twins.” However, Blackmun’s rulings, including those in First Amendment cases, became increasingly liberal as he sat on the Court, displeasing Burger.
Justice Blackmun is considered an architect of the Court’s commercial speech doctrine, which concerns whether business-related expression enjoys constitutional protection similar to that extended to political speech. In Bigelow v. Virginia (1975), Blackmun wrote the opinion that held that a Virginia newspaper was within its First Amendment rights in publishing an advertisement for legal abortions available in New York.

Sadly, the world’s long historic setup let male violence dominate too often. However, now is a time when homo sapiens only chance for survival is to reverse the holders of power and do it more rapidly and with equity.
Pressing my hope button, the increasing power of women (As Biden delivered his State of the Union address, I looked at the many powerful women—Speaker Pelosi—now in Congress) here where it is already well started but better in many other democracies!
What blows my mind is the ideological arrogance of saying women can’t be in total control of their bodies!
This Supreme Court killing of Roe on June 24th of last year exemplifies the tyrannical male mentality that’s trying to keep women in subservient positions, using religion to supplant public health and the right of privacy!
Let’s understand that the modern male version emulating the long extant divine right of kings is utterly discriminatory and dysfunctional!
The only slight chance for us to change here in the USA is at the ballot box. As we watch the ghastly ineptness of the new GOP House leadership, we know the 2024 election is the most important since the first Civil War in the 1860s.
Demands for better policing, better equity, less crime, more togetherness comes only with the sharing of power with women.
My question: Do enough women and men understand the vast benefits such a system could rapidly produce? Will such power shifts happen fast enough worldwide to save us and other nations from that looming 6th Extinction?
